After railroad maintenance fixes a section of track the spikes that once held the old rail section in place left lying along the side of the new track. This product utilizes this wasted material and brings a rugged aesthetic to a home. The railroad spikes used to make this product were found alongside tracks in Bellingham, Washington. After only a few years lying exposed to the environment the spikes had become pitted due to the oxidization process. As students write on their paper a IR scanner built into the desk's surface scans their work as they go.
